When we want to change career, it can really help to first figure out what kind of life we want to live to make sure that we match our career with the lifestyle we want.
From my experience and what I’ve learned so far on my own journey, I highly recommend you create your life plan first.
Start by identifying what’s currently important to you – simply look at how you spend your time and what appears most important to you at this point in your life.
Then, when you look 5, 10 or even 20 years into the future, what do you want your life to look like? How do you want to live?
For further clarity, here are 11 more questions for you to answer:
1. Where do you want to live?
2. What do you want your home to look like?
3. How do you want to spend your days? From the time you get up to the time you go to bed, what do you want the typical day to look like?
4. What type of environment do you want to go to or be in each day?
5. How do you want to be able to dress?
6. What type of people do you want to be surrounded by?
7. How important is money to you and how much do you want to earn?
8. Do you want to have a shorter commute or no commute?
9. Do you want to travel for work? How much and where?
10. What type of freedom do you have?
11. How do you want to feel?
Don’t overthink your answers, just start with a few simple thoughts. Make it fun and explorative!
WRITE IT DOWN
There is something magical that happens when we take our vision and put it down on paper.
Tip. You can even create a vision board for the life and career that you want for yourself. Include images, sayings and things that inspire you. Choose no more than 5 pictures of specific things you want to have or experience. Put the board some place where you can see it every day to keep you motivated and inspired.
Once you have a clear vision of the lifestyle you want, you can build your professional plan around this.
If you want further help to get more clarity and to find your right path forward you can book a time for a FREE 60 min ‘Design Your Best Future’ one-on-one coaching session with me.
