Most of my clients say at some point during our coaching process that they want balance in their lives. The interesting thing is when I ask them what balance means to them, they often come up with different answers.
As it’s very individual and changes as we go through different stages in life, finding a balance can be quite difficult. That’s why it’s important that we check in with ourselves from time to time and review our lives to see if it’s well balanced. In this way, we give ourselves the chance to make any necessary changes and live our best lives.
In my coaching I often use an exercise called the ‘Wheel of Life’.
It covers most areas of life and you rate each area between 0️⃣ = Not satisfied to 🔟 = Very satisfied.
You can do your own balance check by writing down the areas that you want to take into account and then score them. You can then easily see where you are out of balance and be able to make changes to improve that particular area.
Here are some ideas for areas to write down: Work, Health, Relationships, Money, Personal Development, Physical Environment, Fun and Leisure.
(If you prefer, you can take my Life Balance Assessment that gives you an instant overview of your current ‘life balance’.)
Once you have written down and scored each area, you can go a bit deeper by answering these 7 questions:
1. How do you feel about your life as you look at your scores?
2. How do you currently spend time in these areas?
3. How would you like to spend time in these areas?
4. Which of these areas would you most like to improve?
5. What would make it a 10?
6. What help and support might you need from others to make changes and be more satisfied with your life?
7. If there was one key action you could take that would begin to bring everything into balance, what would it be?
Time to take action:
What is one small step you can take today to get started?
